The former teacher and principal was probably known to all adelsdorf residents. Those who were not her students at least learned to swim with her! "I'm fine and I don't want any presents!", she told the FT. She advised the incorrigible in her invitation: "I am happy about a donation for the new building of the kindergarten sancta maria"!" the coarse colorful box filled up quickly until the evening with many shines and envelopes.
Gertraud frohlich was born on 27. July 1922 born in mies, today's stribro (sudetenland), as the daughter of the building contractor josef and his wife pauline ernstberger. Her younger brother walther died in 2003. As early as her elementary school years, the desire to become a teacher awoke in her. The role model was her teacher in the second grade. After school and university, she passed her teacher's examination in her old home country in april 1942 and taught there until may 1945. Then it cut pack and off to the west.
Shock at the zoo
In adelsdorf she found her second home. In 1946 she married baptist frohlich, who died eleven years ago. Son rudolf and daughter birgit with their families, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren came to congratulate her.
The jubilarian liked to rummage in her rich box of memories: "in my time as a teacher, we often took a trip to the zoo in summer. Once i lost a little second grader – a super gau for a teacher! Excitedly I looked for her on the land. The little woman with the backpack and the black braids was sitting on a chair in front of the elephant house, dangling her fuben, calmly eating her bread and chatting with the toilet attendant. The stone that fell from my heart was sure to be heard all the way to adelsdorf!" she said with a laugh.
She taught for 40 years at the adelsdorf elementary school, at first in the former – now newly renovated – town hall. In 1967 she moved to the new elementary school in the upper bachgasse, at that time one of the largest elementary schools in the district. Under the then rector hans handwerger, she had held the post of second rector since 1977. Over two generations of adelsdorfer she pragte in this time. She always enjoyed working with children – and they enjoyed working with her, which was not always self-evident.
During the day, many former students stopped by the lounge of the hotel 3kronen to congratulate her and to assure her: "mrs. Frohlich was a very good, motherly and popular teacher!"
gymnastics and swimming classes
She had not only worked "in the schoolroom. In 1971, under her leadership, several women's gymnastics and swimming groups were formed. She still continues these courses today in her old freshness. Rector hans handwerger said goodbye to his deputy in 1985 with the words: "she has shaped several generations of adelsdorf citizens with her unmistakable motherly manner". Already on 11. December 1997 she received the honorary certificate of the municipality of adelsdorf from the mayor at that time, armin gob.
Her retirement lasts until today. The congratulators gave themselves on saturday the turklinke in the hand: 60 of her 90 sports ladies sang her a serenade and each presented a rose to the surprised jubilarian. Second district administrator karin knorr (), mayor kasten fischkal, local councillors, former colleagues and of course pastor thomas ringer wished her many more healthy years of life. She doesn't really have an answer to the question of how one can grow old so fit and healthy. But her life story tells the tale: she has never rested – until today!
